Meta's new WhatsApp pricing: what changed on 1 October and where Beecasts fits

By Beecasts Team · Published October 2, 2026 · Updated October 3, 2026

On 1 October 2026 Meta changed how it charges for the WhatsApp Business Platform. Replies that used to be free inside the 24-hour customer service window now cost money once a monthly allowance runs out, and utility templates sent inside that window are no longer free either. If your team answers customers on WhatsApp all day, this changes your bill.

What changed on 1 October

  • Service messages are no longer free. Free-form replies sent within 24 hours of a customer's message are charged per delivered message once you pass the first 1,000 each month. The allowance applies to each business phone number, resets monthly and does not roll over.

  • Utility templates inside the window are charged. Order updates, payment confirmations and similar notices used to be free when sent in an open customer service window. They now cost the utility rate for the recipient's market.

  • Billing needs a payment method. Several providers reported that businesses had to add a payment method to their WhatsApp Business Account by 30 September, or service message delivery could stop. Check with your provider.

  • Unchanged: messages your customers send you stay free, and messages inside the 72-hour free entry point window stay free.

Rates are per delivered message and depend on the recipient's country, so look up your own markets on Meta's published rate card before you model anything. The charges apply to human agents and chatbots alike.

For Indonesia, Meta's rupiah rate card (effective 1 October 2026, checked 3 October 2026) lists these list rates per delivered message:

  • Marketing: Rp 586.33

  • Utility: Rp 356.65

  • Authentication: Rp 356.65

  • Service, after the first 1,000 free per number each month: Rp 356.65

Your bill can differ with volume tiers, tax and provider fees, and Meta can change rates.

Who feels it most

The change hits teams whose volume is mostly replies. A shop with one number that answers 20,000 customer messages a month used to pay nothing for those replies. Now 19,000 of them are chargeable after the allowance: 19,000 × Rp 356.65 = Rp 6,776,350 a month at Meta's list rate, before tax and provider fees and on top of any marketing templates.

Busy support desks, chatbot-heavy flows and businesses that run several numbers feel it first, because the free 1,000 is per number and cannot be moved between numbers.

Where Beecasts fits

Beecasts takes a different route. You link a WhatsApp number as a device by scanning a QR code, the same way you would link WhatsApp Web, and Beecasts works through that connection. It does not use the WhatsApp Business Platform, so Meta's per-message charges are not part of your Beecasts bill. You pay a flat monthly price in rupiah instead:

  • Free: 1 WhatsApp session and 500 messages a month, to try it. It already includes the REST API, webhooks and broadcasts.

  • Starter, Rp 299.000 a month: 1 session, 50,000 messages, 2 team seats, shared inbox, visual automations and 100 AI replies. At full use that is about Rp 6 per message.

  • Scale, Rp 1.500.000 a month: 5 sessions, 500,000 messages, 10 seats and 1,000 AI replies.

  • Business, Rp 4.500.000 a month: unlimited sessions, 5,000,000 messages, 50 seats and 5,000 AI replies.

For a reply-heavy team the appeal is simple: the bill does not grow with every answer you send.

The honest trade-offs

Flat pricing is not free of trade-offs, and you should weigh them before you move anything.

  • Beecasts is independent. It is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta, and it is not the official Business Platform. Messages go out through your linked device, not through Meta-approved templates.

  • Numbers can be restricted. WhatsApp limits numbers that behave like spam. Beecasts helps with warm-up limits for new numbers, randomised gaps between messages, automatic pause when failures spike and respect for STOP opt-outs, but it cannot remove that risk. You remain responsible for consent and lawful use.

  • Some needs still call for the official platform. If you need the verified badge, Meta-approved templates at scale or strict enterprise compliance, the official API is the right tool even with the new fees.

How to decide

  1. Count last month's replies per number. Anything above 1,000 per number is now chargeable.

  2. Split your volume into replies, utility updates and marketing, and price each on Meta's rate card for your markets.

  3. Compare the total with a flat plan, then add your risk tolerance and your need for official features.

  4. If a flat plan fits, test it on the free plan first.

Ready to try? Start free, link a number and see whether the flat-rate model fits your team. Details are as reported on 2 October 2026; check Meta's pages for the latest rules and rates.
