WhatsApp API in Indonesia: official or unofficial?

A WhatsApp API lets your software send and receive WhatsApp messages without someone typing in the app. In Indonesia there are two ways to get one, and they differ in cost, setup and risk.

Updated: 3 October 2026

What is a WhatsApp API?

It is a way for your own system, such as a shop backend, a CRM or a helpdesk, to send messages to customers and receive their replies automatically. You can use it for order updates, support chats, reminders and broadcasts.

You can get it in two ways: the official WhatsApp Business Platform from Meta, usually through a provider, or an independent gateway that links a number as a device.

What is the difference between the official and the unofficial API?

How does the official API charge?

Meta charges per delivered message, and the rate depends on the message category and the country. Since 1 October 2026, service replies beyond a monthly allowance of 1,000 per number and utility templates sent inside the 24-hour window are charged as well.

These are Meta's list rates for Indonesia in rupiah, effective 1 October 2026, as published in Meta's rupiah rate card and checked on 3 October 2026:

Message categoryMeta list rate per delivered message
MarketingRp 586.33
UtilityRp 356.65
AuthenticationRp 356.65
Service (after the first 1,000 free per month per number)Rp 356.65

Your actual bill can differ with volume tiers, tax and provider fees, and Meta can change rates, so check Meta's current rate card before you budget.

Worked example: one number sends 10,000 service replies in a month. The first 1,000 are free and the other 9,000 cost 9,000 × Rp 356.65 = Rp 3,209,850 at Meta's list rate. The same volume on the Beecasts Starter plan is a flat Rp 299.000 a month, which includes 50,000 messages. The trade-offs are described below: Beecasts is independent and carries a risk to your number.

How do you start with the official API?

  • Create a Meta Business account and verify your business.
  • Choose a phone number that is not already registered on WhatsApp.
  • Pick a provider, or connect to Meta directly.
  • Create message templates and submit them for approval, because business-initiated messages use approved templates.

Requirements change over time, so follow Meta's current documentation.

How does Beecasts work?

  • You scan a QR code to link a WhatsApp number. Adding the phone number first is optional.
  • Your team replies from a shared inbox, and automations and AI replies can answer common questions from your own knowledge base.
  • Your systems send messages through one REST API and receive incoming messages and delivery updates through signed webhooks (HMAC-SHA256). A webhook that does not get a 2xx answer is retried with growing waits, up to 8 attempts.
  • Each plan has a flat monthly price in rupiah. See the pricing page for the current plans.

How does Beecasts protect your number?

  • New numbers warm up with a daily broadcast limit that grows over their first 30 days.
  • Broadcast messages leave at slightly random intervals, not at a machine-regular beat.
  • A broadcast pauses itself and alerts you when 10 of its last 20 messages fail.
  • Contacts who reply STOP, BERHENTI or UNSUBSCRIBE are skipped by later broadcasts.

These safeguards lower the risk but cannot remove it. WhatsApp can still restrict any number, and you are responsible for having your recipients' consent.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the official API if you need the verified badge, send Meta-approved templates at large scale, or have strict compliance requirements. Choose Beecasts if most of your volume is replies to customers, you want a flat monthly price, and you accept the risk to your number. You can start on the free plan to test it.
